Site 1: Veolia
Delegates will have the opportunity to view all aspects of the working Veolia operations plant including product deliveries and sorting and baling of recycled materials. Stocks of product awaiting containerisation will also be on view
Site 2: Launceston City Council Remount Road Refuse Disposal Area
Launceston City Council has recently completed a $2.5 million Waste Transfer Station, incorporating 45m of proprietary walking floor and a methane extraction gas system which generates electricity in the reticulation grid. The facility provides an undercover, safe and easily accessible area for residents to dispose of their waste without having to enter the landfill. This site tour will include a demonstration of the walking floor and the methane extraction gas system.
Site 3: Cement Australia
With plants in Queensland, New South Wales and Tasmania, Cement Australia has a production capacity of over 3 million tonnes annually. Delegates will view the cement kiln and the fuel facilities, focussing on the HVF alternative fuel plant in operation since February 2008. This plant uses fuel manufactured at Dandenong using waste materials. Other aspects on view may include mining, crushing and grinding.
