COMPOST AUSTRALIA OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES TO SAVE WATER, MONEY, AND THE ENVIRONMENT
Sydney, NSW - December 10 2004
Every year farming uses more 17M gigalitres of water out of a total usage in the country of 25M gigalitres. This is almost 70% of Australia’s water.
Australia is the driest continent in terms of rainfall per square kilometre. All state governments are warning of more dry times ahead, as well as facilitating the development of more sustainable land management practices.
Compost Australia has teamed up with Resource Consulting Services (RCS) in presenting the conference series Compost – The Way to Grow! in all major capital cities early next year.
“This is the first conference series of its kind in Australia which will bring together all the stakeholders in the compost supply chain at a single event” said Compost Australia Chairman, Peter Wadewitz.
Aimed at attracting land managers, industry and government representatives, researchers and compost manufacturers, conference topics will include:
- Water savings from use of compost, mulch and related products
- Cost savings and other benefits derived from compost use
- Aiding disease suppression in crops and improving soil health through the use of compost products
- Using the right compost for the job (compost quality)
“International experts such as Professor Harry Hoitink from the Dept of Plant Pathology, Ohio State University , USA have been engaged for the conference both as keynote speakers and to participate in workshops, “ said Wadewitz.
