ustralasian Resource Recovery has been renamed Australasian Industrial Ecology Conference, a title which better describes the focus of the conference and future association. The terminology, resource recovery, created confusion as it is widely used to cover road side recycling and landfill projects.
Industrial Ecology promotes enhanced sustainability by enabling the development of innovations in the use and reuse of industrial waste materials. The wastes or by-products of one industry are used as an input in another industry. The ultimate aim of Industrial Ecology is ZERO waste.
The confusion of the message, developments in relationships with regards to regulations, and the economic environment all contributed to the decision to postpone the conference to 30 & 31 July 2009. We now have the luxury of time to allow for further strengthening of relationships with regulators, government & industry associations, establisment of the AIE Association or Action Group, and the development of a stronger message and direction
