program

Continuing the series of very successful conferences in 2009 and 2010, the 3rd Australasian Industrial Ecology Conference will be held in the Hunter Valley from 27 to 29 July 2011.

The conference series aims to promote the practice of industrial ecology (IE) in Australia generally. Each event provides a stimulating forum in which ideas and opportunities can be presented and discussed. This conference is intended to achieve some of the principle objectives of the Australian Industrial Ecology Network, namely:

  1. ‘Spread the word’ about the benefits of Industrial Ecology
  2. Facilitate the support of Governments and regulators for Industrial Ecology
  3. Stimulate liaison between international and Australian organisations that have mutual interests.
  4. Support the development of knowledge about Industrial Ecology and the techniques and tools for its application in practice.

The theme of this year's conference is 'Turning ideas into reality – opportunities for manufacturing, mining and agribusiness.'

NEW FOR 2011! This year a technical tour of industrial ecology projects has been added to the conference program.  Following the tour, a workshop will be held for delegates who would like to explore the ‘real life’ prospects for identifying and/or participate in  establishing mutually beneficial projects.

The conference will be of particular interest to:

  • Industries: Oil, Gas, Mining and Mineral Processing, Metals, Chemicals, Building Materials, Power Generators, Construction, Manufacturing, Packaging, Food & Beverage
  • Agencies: Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, State and Federal Departments of Planning, State and Federal Departments of Environment, State and Federal Departments of Primary Industry and State and Federal Departments of Sustainability, CSIRO, ANSTO and Universities
  • Service Providers: Environmental Lawyers, Environmental Consultants, Engineers and Accountants

I encourage you to share your experience and ideas to help make this another valuable event for Industrial Ecology.
