OneSteel Sydney Steel Mill
Sydney Steel Mill is a key part of OneSteel Rod, Bar & Wire. OneSteel Rod, Bar & Wire is the manufacturing heart of OneSteel. The Steel Mill produces products from recycled steel including structural, rail, rod, merchant bar, cold finished bar, chrome plated bar and wire, with the majority used in the construction, manufacturing, housing, mining and agricultural industries. Operations include an electric arc melting operation, billet caster and rod and bar mill at the Sydney Steel Mill, Western Sydney. |
SITA SAWT Facilty
Australia generates over 32 million tonnes of waste each year, of which only 48% is recycled.
The SITA Advanced Waste Treatment (SAWT) facility at Elizabeth Drive, Kemps Creek will have the capacity to process up to 120,000 tonnes of municipal
solid waste and green and food waste per annum. The facility will recover
reusable resources such as steel, timber, glass and plastic; produce quality compost to assist in land rehabilitation and local landscaping; and significantly reduce waste to landfill.
The facility is currently under construction and, once operational in 2009, will initially service both Penrith City Council and Liverpool Council |
Visy Closed Loop Tour
Visy Material Recovery Facility - one of the largest and most technically advanced in Australia. The fully automated MRF and its advanced technology has almost doubled the recycling capacity of existing MRFs, producing greater residential recycling and making sorting easier for households. The Smithfield Visy MRF has the ability to process 50 tonnes per hour.
Starting life in 1948 making cardboard boxes for a small number of loyal customers, in 2008 Visy can now offer a diverse range of eco-efficient packaging:
Visy Paper Mill, Smithfield – with a direct infeed from the Visy Recycling MRF, the Visy paper mill operates 24/7, producing recycled paper for the packaging and building industries from its two paper machines in Smithfield.
Visy Board, Smithfield - Visy is Australasia's leading manufacturer of fibre board boxes made from 100% recycled and kraft papers.
Visy Beverage Packaging, Smithfield - has the facilities to produce high quality beverage cans and can ends for the Australasian market using post consumer aluminium. |

TOUR 2 (available to delegates from government only)
Tour departs Luna Park at 9.00am sharp, delegates must assemble at the entrance to the Park at 8.45am
|
Thiess Services Somersby MRF
Visitors to the site will see a large number of waste management, environmental and safety innovations from near infrared auto-sorting machinery, to GPS telemetry in vehicles, to a mobile vehicle hoist, auto truck wash and overhead harnessing in the workshop.
Thiess Services is justifiably proud of its $41 million investment in the 10 year collection and processing contract. |
Gosford City Council Woy Woy Landfill
Gosford City Council currently has two landfills in operation: Kincumber and Woy Woy. The Kincumber landfill operates as a putrescible landfill and a recycling/transfer plant. Once it ceases operations in 2009 as a putrescible landfill, domestic and commercial waste will be received at the Woy Woy landfill.
Inert waste deposited at both landfills goes through a rough sort, later transported to a privately operated inert landfill at Mangrove Mountain. Green waste is currently processed at Woy Woy under contract with ANL and removed off site. Approval is also being sought for an AWT facility to be developed at Woy Woy. Both landfills have installed gas reticulation systems and are now generating electricity in partnership with AGL.
Future plans include continuing transport off site of inert waste to preserve the void space and increased recycling/reprocessing opportunities of C&D.
|
| SULO MGB Australia operates one of the largest plastic injection moulding companies in Australasia. The SULO facility is the most highly automated large tonnage injection moulding plant in Australia and has produced in excess of 10 million Mobile Garbage Bins (MGBs) for the Australian market. |
